I get asked the following question quite a bit when I’m giving training on the PIX or ASA:

What is the deal — is there a Cisco VPN client for Windows 64 bit hosts?

Many people have recently upgraded to a shiny new version of Windows Vista 64 bit and want to be able to fire up the familiar Cisco VPN client software and access their corporate environment. So they immediately non-nonchalantly ask me whether or not the software is available and how they can get it.

The problem is… it is not available and the answer is a resounding “no”…

For whatever reason, Cisco has not developed a 64 bit VPN client, and has no plans to.

I would bet it is due to the move towards using the Cisco AnyConnect method of VPN connectivity.

AnyConnect is actually some very good stuff, I go over it very thoroughly in the training videos and recommend that anyone who configures the Cisco ASA come to know and love it as it seems to be the “push” in direction from Cisco.
